Title: Do You Know the Good Shepherd?

Text:

John 10:14-15 (ESV)
14 I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me,
15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.

Observation:

I woke up this morning with the word life on my mind. The message I heard on Sunday still lingers in my heart. At my fitness class on Monday one of my friends asked me how did I like the sermon on Sunday? We both agreed it was a wonderful message. It was wonderful for those who know Jesus, and it was wonderful for those who came to know Him on that day. However, it was not a good day for those who heard about Him but did not receive Him.

John 1:12-13 (ESV)
12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,
13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

Life as we know it in our present state will not last forever. Yesterday, I mentioned that since Sunday I had three friends who lost loved ones that they knew. One of those deaths was my childhood pastor. He went to church on Sunday, and then went to lunch with his wife. He died later that day he was 96; the other two who died were in their 50's.

The bible says this about those who die, and have never received the gift of eternal life.

John 3:18 (KJV)
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Do you know the Good Shepherd? Can you say like the Psalmist these words?

Psalm 23:1 (KJV)

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

If you can say the Lord is my Shepherd, then you can know and be assured of this promise.

Psalm 23:6 (KJV)
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Prayer:

Father God, my dear Father, I am so glad for the comfort that these words are not just at the time of the death of a loved one, but how comforting they are for us who know You all of the days of our life.

Father God, my prayer is that anyone who does not know You as the Good Shepherd will come to know You through believing in and receiving the Lord Jesus Christ into their heart. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Matthew 4:4 (HCSB)
4 But He answered, "It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God."

Psalm 2:8 (HCSB)
8 Ask of Me, and I will make the nations Your inheritance and the ends of the earth Your possession.
