Title: When Weakness is a Good Thing
Text:
Isaiah 40:28-31 (ESV)
28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.
29 He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength.
30 Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted;
31 but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
Observation:
A series of contacts I had in recent days has put this topic on my mind. So, when I got up this morning I turned to today's text for hope and help.
This passage should be an encouragement to God's people when we are weak. There are two things that we should value and remember.
- God has strength and wisdom.
- He gives them to His people.
On what basis does God give strength to His people?
- He does not give it on the basis of youth.
- He gives it on the basis of trust.
When you are at your weakest point in your life, you are in the best position to receive strength if you will look to the Lord. So many of life's greatest problems could be solved if we learned to live in the presence of the Lord. That is where the strength is; that is where the wisdom is for us to live the overcoming life in this difficult and dangerous world.
The Lord woke me up yesterday with this verse on my heart; I shared it on Social Media yesterday. It fits so well with today's text so I share it here.
Isaiah 30:18 (ESV)
18 Therefore the LORD waits to be gracious to you, and therefore he exalts himself to show mercy to you. For the LORD is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for him.
Prayer:
Our Father in heaven, Sovereign Lord, my dear Father, I am so grateful that You look with compassion upon those who are weak, and need hope and a helping hand.
Father God, I pray today's topic will speak into the hearts of many who are hurting or dealing with family or friends who are hurting. Father, I pray that we will have the humility to come to You with empty hands, open hearts, and the faith to trust in You to help us; to give us strength and the wisdom of God. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
Psalm 147:5-6 (ESV)
5 Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure.
6 The LORD lifts up the humble; he casts the wicked to the ground.
Matthew 4:4 (HCSB)
4 But He answered, "It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God."
Psalm 2:8 (HCSB)
8 Ask of Me, and I will make the nations Your inheritance and the ends of the earth Your possession.
