Title: How to Turn Your Worry into Worship
Text:
Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT)
6 Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.
7 Then you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
Observation:
Our world and our individual lives are filled with anxieties; it is an unpleasant state of inner turmoil. Yesterday, I heard from three friends of deaths that occurred on Sunday. It is true, that we never know what a day will bring.
I woke up this morning with the passage listed in our text on my mind. It was reinforced by a daily text that I get from a dear friend to start each day; he is one time zone ahead of me.
Since we all have things that make us anxious and could cause us to worry, how can we turn those worries into worship?
First, we can pray; our text reminds us to, "Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything". Consider what prayer can do for you.
Presence - Prayer is worship. Enter into prayer with an attitude of thanksgiving; "Thank Him for all He has done for you".
Petition - Prayer is petition. Therefore, "Tell God what you need".
Peace - Prayer will exchange your worries with God's peace. The bible says, "You will experience God's peace".
Power - The peace of God provides you with the power of God to overcome your worries. The bible says, "His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus".
Prayer:
Father God, my dear Father, I am so grateful for the privilege and the power of prayer. Father, help us by the power of the Spirit, who lives in us, to make prayer our first response to our problems. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
Matthew 4:4 (HCSB)
4 But He answered, "It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God."
Psalm 2:8 (HCSB)
8 Ask of Me, and I will make the nations Your inheritance and the ends of the earth Your possession.
