Title: Why Good Friday is So Good

Text:

Romans 5:6-11 (NLT)
6 When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners.
7 Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good.
8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
9 And since we have been made right in God's sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God's condemnation.
10 For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son.
11 So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.

Observation:

Today is a special day for believers; it is the day when we remember what the Son of God did to rescue us from our sinful condition. Everyone who has a human father has this condition, and face this penalty.

Romans 3:10 (NLT)
10 As the Scriptures say, "No one is righteous— not even one.

Romans 3:23 (NLT)
23 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God's glorious standard.

Romans 6:23 (NLT)
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

The reason why this day in Holy Week is Good Friday is because of what Jesus did for us.

1 Peter 2:24 (KJV)
24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

Prayer:

Father God, my dear Father, I am so grateful for the amazing love of God for sinful mankind.

Father God, I rejoice that death could not keep You in the grave. Father, thank you for the love that delivered us from darkness to light.

Father God, I'm praying that many in our world will hear the message of the gospel on Resurrection Sunday, and be rescued by the Lamb of God. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Song:

Rescue the perishing,

  Care for the dying,

Snatch them in pity from sin and the grave;

  Weep o'er the erring one,

  Lift up the fallen,

Tell them of Jesus the mighty to save.

Rescue the perishing,

  Care for the dying;

Jesus is merciful,

    Jesus will save.
