Title: What is Your Greatest Hope?
Text:
2 Corinthians 4:18 (KJV)
18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
Observation:
The one word that is on my heart today is hope. If my thoughts are about today or tomorrow, I always have hope. Why do I have hope?
I find hope in the things that are eternal; the selected text is one that greatly informs the things that affect my hope. Here are some verses that expand upon the reason and the source of my hope.
2 Corinthians 5:6-9 (ESV)
6 So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord,
7 for we walk by faith, not by sight.
8 Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.
9 So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him.
For some people the main focus of their present and their future are things that can be seen. Notice that all these things are temporal; they perish with the passing of time.
However, it is not the case for things that are invisible to the eye. The things that are not seen are eternal. Here are three things that will last forever.
1 Corinthians 13:13 (ESV)
13 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
Today, on this day following a great day of celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus my hope and my faith are rooted deep in His love. In Christ Jesus my Savior and the Lord of my life I have everything I need for today, and for all of my tomorrows.
Philippians 4:19 (ESV)
19 And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Prayer:
Father God, Sovereign Lord, I praise and thank You for loving us with an everlasting love; that You loved us first, and sent Jesus into the world to rescue us from the power of sin and death.
Father, I thank You that Jesus completed His work; on the cross He said, "It is finished".
Father God, I thank You that because we are still alive it is proof that our work is not yet finished, and if Christ lives in us, we have the power to finish the purpose for which we were born. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
Ephesians 3:20-21 (ESV)
20 Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us,
21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
Matthew 4:4 (HCSB)
4 But He answered, "It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God."
Psalm 2:8 (HCSB)
8 Ask of Me, and I will make the nations Your inheritance and the ends of the earth Your possession.
