Title:Why It Pays to Worship the Lord
Text:
Proverbs 15:8 (HCSB)
8 The sacrifice of the wicked is detestable to the LORD, but the prayer of the upright is His delight.
Observation:
Is there anything that ever happens to us in this world that should prevent us from doing that which delights our Lord?
There are times when trouble comes in our lives that cause us to fear, and to question the reality of God. Has this ever happened to you?
One of the truths that we must come to grips with is that in this world trouble is the experience of the righteous and the wicked. One of my friends who has seen a lot of trouble in his life says this,"We live in the world; and, it is not heaven down here. Jesus told His followers that in the world we would have trouble; to be forewarned is to be forearmed.
John 16:33 (HCSB)
33 I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world."
Don't let trouble rob you of the opportunity and the privilege to exchange your worries for worship; for the opportunity to draw near to God. In the midst of our troubles, the good news is that Jesus has conquered the world. We can't solve all the problems of the world, but we know one who can and who has already done it.
James 4:8 (HCSB)
8 Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, sinners, and purify your hearts, double-minded people!
There is nothing like worship; it draws us near to God, and God near to us. When our praises go up to God, His blessings comes down to our needy lives. O, I am so glad that our prayers when they are filled with praise and thanksgiving pleases our Lord, and blesses our souls.
Acts 16:25-26 (HCSB)
25 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.
26 Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the jail were shaken, and immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone's chains came loose.
Prayer:
Our Father in heaven, my dear Father, I am so grateful for the privilege of prayer.
What a blessing it is to know that even in our most trouble filled days or nights that we have access to our heavenly Father, and that You delight to hear from Your faithful and devoted children. Father, give us the strength to be courageous. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
Matthew 4:4 (HCSB)
4 But He answered, "It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God."
Psalm 2:8 (HCSB)
8 Ask of Me, and I will make the nations Your inheritance and the ends of the earth Your possession.
