Title: Are You Vigilant in Guarding Your Thoughts?

Text:

Romans 8:5-6 (HCSB)

5  For those who live according to the flesh think about the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, about the things of the Spirit.

6  For the mind-set of the flesh is death, but the mind-set of the Spirit is life and peace.

Observation:

One or more of our five senses are working every moment of every day, and they are active even when we are asleep. There is a battle for the control of our mind.

This is why it is so important for us to guard our thoughts, and guard our hearts.

O how we need to learn how to live according to the Spirit; the Holy Spirit of God who lives in God's people.

Galatians 5:16 (NLT)

16  So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won't be doing what your sinful nature craves.

What we need to do is to starve our sinful nature. We do this by guarding our minds and hearts. We need to feed our new nature with the Word of God, and the worship of God.

The saints of every age have learned the value of singing in our sorrows and our storms; when we sing our praises to God our hearts are stirred and strengthened.

Psalm 95:1-2 (HCSB)

1  Come, let us shout joyfully to the LORD, shout triumphantly to the rock of our salvation!

2  Let us enter His presence with thanksgiving; let us shout triumphantly to Him in song.

Prayer:

Father God, I am so glad that Your people have access to the presence and power of God for living our daily lives in a dark and dangerous world.

Father, help us to guard our hearts and our minds so that the control of our five senses will be under the control of the Holy Spirit of God who is the way to life and peace. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Matthew 4:4 (HCSB)
4 But He answered, "It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God."

Psalm 2:8 (HCSB)
8 Ask of Me, and I will make the nations Your inheritance and the ends of the earth Your possession.
