Title: Do You Desire to Know God's Purpose for You?
Text:
Isaiah 61:1-3 (HCSB)
1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is on Me, because the LORD has anointed Me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and freedom to the prisoners;
2 to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor, and the day of our God's vengeance; to comfort all who mourn,
3 to provide for those who mourn in Zion; to give them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, festive oil instead of mourning, and splendid clothes instead of despair. And they will be called righteous trees, planted by the LORD to glorify Him.
Observation:
This thought came to me as I was taking my daily walk to work my heart out.
However, the seed was planted during my daily bible reading before I left home for my walk.
I started with the scripture from Isaiah. Then my mind was focused on the word purpose. After reading the focal passage several times, I came up with the question I'm using as a title for today's meditation.
I see the answer to the question in my title in verse three of our focal passage. This portion speaks to my heart, "And they will be called righteous trees, planted by the LORD to glorify Him".
God's purpose for His people is to be holy, and to glorify Him. Notice what Paul says here.
Ephesians 1:4 (HCSB)
4 For He chose us in Him, before the foundation of the world, to be holy and blameless in His sight. In love.
Ephesians 1:14 (HCSB)
14 He is the down payment of our inheritance, for the redemption of the possession, to the praise of His glory.
Prayer:
Father, my goal is be the person You made me to be, and fulfill the purpose for which You made me, and remade me through Your sacrificial death as payment of my sin debt. Father, I embrace the goal of the Apostle Paul.
Philippians 3:12-14 (NLT)
12 I don't mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me.
13 No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead,
14 I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.
Hallelujah! Amen.
Isaiah 55:11 (KJV)
11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
