Title: The Value of Listening
Text:
Hebrews 4:14-16 (ESV)
14 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Observation:
The one word for today is listening, and the focal verse is Hebrews 4:16.
What is the area of your life where you have the most pressing need? What is that need? Where have you been looking for help?
Today, my encouragement to you is to look to Jesus. You have the choice of listening to God's appeal to you; the invitation to draw near to Jesus. What is keeping you from coming to Jesus for help?
Here is the reason why you should draw near to Jesus:
Hebrews 7:25 (ESV)
25 Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.
Hebrews 10:22 (ESV)
22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
This promise is to those who have a personal relationship with the Lord. Just like Jesus drew near to His Father, you can draw to the same Father because of your personal relationship with Jesus.
Have you believed in Jesus? Did you by faith invite Him to come into your heart? Did you receive Him and His righteousness? If so, you have a relationship with Him with the ability to draw near to Him. Do you belong to Jesus?
John 10:27 (ESV)
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.
Here is how you should approach Him:
Do what Hebrews 4:16 tells us to do; draw near to Him with confidence, don't abandon your confidence.
Hebrews 10:35 (ESV)
35 Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward.
Prayer:
Father God, Our dear Father, I am so glad that each of us who has a personal relationship with Jesus can come boldly to the throne of grace.
Father, I pray that we would be willing to humble ourselves, and seek Your face; that we would bring all of our needs to You, and find the help that we need. Surely, we stand in the need of grace and mercy. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
Matthew 4:4 (HCSB)
4 But He answered, "It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God."
Psalm 2:8 (HCSB)
8 Ask of Me, and I will make the nations Your inheritance and the ends of the earth Your possession.
