Title: Why Should You Be Careful About What You Say?

Text:

Matthew 12:33-37 (HCSB)
33 "Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit. 34 Brood of vipers! How can you speak good things when you are evil? For the mouth speaks from the overflow of the heart. 35 A good man produces good things from his storeroom of good, and an evil man produces evil things from his storeroom of evil. 36 I tell you that on the day of judgment people will have to account for every careless word they speak. 37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned."

Observation:

What you say reveals what is in your heart. The words we speak with our mouth greatly form the person we become.

Matthew 12:37 (NLT)
The words you say will either acquit you or condemn you.

Notice the words that came out of the mouth of the Pharisees, and how these words revealed what was in their hearts. The Pharisees spoke wicked words, and their life was a bad tree.

Matthew 12:24 (HCSB)
When the Pharisees heard this, they said, "The man drives out demons only by Beelzebul, the ruler of the demons."

Matthew 12:33 (HCSB)
"Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit.

Prayer:

Father God, my dear Father, I make the prayer of the Psalmist my prayer, when he asked you to do this in his life.

Psalm 141:3 (HCSB)
Lord, set up a guard for my mouth; keep watch at the door of my lips.

Father God, I also pray this prayer; the prayer of a man who the Bible describes as the wisest man who ever lived.

Proverbs 4:23 (HCSB)
Guard your heart above all else, for it is the source of life.

Father, I ask you to cleanse our hearts and our mouths. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Matthew 4:4 (HCSB)
4 But He answered, "It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God."

Psalm 2:8 (HCSB)
8 Ask of Me, and I will make the nations Your inheritance and the ends of the earth Your possession.
