Title: Have You Experienced What Faith in God Can Accomplish?

Text:

Matthew 14:28-32 (HCSB)
28 "Lord, if it's You," Peter answered Him, "command me to come to You on the water." 29 "Come!" He said. And climbing out of the boat, Peter started walking on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the strength of the wind, he was afraid. And beginning to sink he cried out, "Lord, save me!" 31 Immediately Jesus reached out His hand, caught hold of him, and said to him, "You of little faith, why did you doubt?" 32 When they got into the boat, the wind ceased.

Observation:

I think most of us can identify with Peter in the way that he got distracted, and took his eyes off of Jesus. It reminds me of what can happen to you and me when we put the focus on our circumstances, and take them off of Jesus.

Notice that Peter did the right thing initially; he came to Jesus, and he did what Jesus told him to do. Peter put his faith in the words of Jesus; he got out of the boat, and walked on water at the command of Jesus.

This highlights the importance of God's people trusting in Jesus, and in His Word. Do you trust the Word of God?

Hebrews 12:1-3 (HCSB)
1 Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us, 2 keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that lay before Him endured a cross and despised the shame and has sat down at the right hand of God's throne. 3 For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, so that you won't grow weary and lose heart.

In conclusion, don't get distracted by the size or the difficulties of your circumstances. Look to Jesus; we have limitations, but God does not.

Luke 1:37 (HCSB)
For nothing will be impossible with God."

Prayer:

Father God, my dear Father, I pray that whenever I encounter a problem in my life that is masquerading as mission impossible that I will be willing to cry out to you this prayer, "Lord, help". In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Matthew 4:4 (HCSB)
4 But He answered, "It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God."

Psalm 2:8 (HCSB)
8 Ask of Me, and I will make the nations Your inheritance and the ends of the earth Your possession.
