Title: Where is Your Heart?
Text:
Matthew 6:19-21 (HCSB)
19 "Don't collect for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But collect for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves don't break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Observation:
In today's focal passage from the Sermon on the Mount Jesus talks about the topic of possessions. Jesus knew love of things would consume us if we did not have the proper attitude toward them. Someone has said that we should love people and use things. Many get this backwards; they use people and love things.
Colossians 3:2 (HCSB)
Set your minds on what is above, not on what is on the earth.
Prayer:
Father God, my dear Father, I pray that you would help us to get our heart in the right place. Father, you are a good God, and you provide abundantly for your people who put their trust in you.
Father, I pray that You would stir within us affection for the things that are above; the things that are eternal rather than the things on earth which are perishing. Father, I am so grateful that You are a God of mercy who cares for those who take refuge in you. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
Nahum 1:7 (HCSB)
The Lord is good, a stronghold in a day of distress; He cares for those who take refuge in Him.

Matthew 4:4 (HCSB)
4 But He answered, "It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God."
Psalm 2:8 (HCSB)
8 Ask of Me, and I will make the nations Your inheritance and the ends of the earth Your possession.
