Title: Is Your Focus on Your Problems or Your Power?
Text:
John 16:13-15 (HCSB)
13 When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth. For He will not speak on His own, but He will speak whatever He hears. He will also declare to you what is to come. 14 He will glorify Me, because He will take from what is Mine and declare it to you. 15 Everything the Father has is Mine. This is why I told you that He takes from what is Mine and will declare it to you.
Observation:
While Jesus was with His followers during His earthly ministry He was the source of their strength. However, He was only with them for a short period of time. When He finished His work in the world who would they look to for hope and help?
Jesus knew that His people would face opposition from without and from within. Trouble will find you when you are looking for it, and it will find you when you are not looking for it.
John 16:2 (HCSB)
They will ban you from the synagogues. In fact, a time is coming when anyone who kills you will think he is offering service to God.
In spite of the difficult, discouraging, and dangerous circumstances we may face in this world, we are not alone. We can have hope for today and tomorrow because of what Jesus has done for us.
Listen to these words of comfort from the lips of Jesus.
John 14:27 (HCSB)
"Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Your heart must not be troubled or fearful.
The Spirit of God has come, and He will be with us forever. Our problems are not a lack of resources. Rather, it is a lack of faith in the power that God provides us. We have all that we need to finish the work God left us in the world to do.
Acts 1:8 (HCSB)
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
Romans 8:9 (HCSB)
You, however, are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, since the Spirit of God lives in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.
Prayer:
Father God, my dear Father, I am so thankful that we are not alone in this world, and that we don't have to rely upon our strength alone. Father, I thank You for the helper; the Holy Spirit of God who lives in me, and in each of Your believing children. Lord, help us to remember where our strength comes from. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
Galatians 5:16 (HCSB)
I say then, walk by the Spirit and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.

Matthew 4:4 (HCSB)
4 But He answered, "It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God."
Psalm 2:8 (HCSB)
8 Ask of Me, and I will make the nations Your inheritance and the ends of the earth Your possession.
