Title: Why I Love to Pray
Text:
Psalm 17:1-7 (ESV)
1 Hear a just cause, O Lord; attend to my cry! Give ear to my prayer from lips free of deceit! 2 From your presence let my vindication come! Let your eyes behold the right! 3 You have tried my heart, you have visited me by night, you have tested me, and you will find nothing; I have purposed that my mouth will not transgress. 4 With regard to the works of man, by the word of your lips I have avoided the ways of the violent. 5 My steps have held fast to your paths; my feet have not slipped. 6 I call upon you, for you will answer me, O God; incline your ear to me; hear my words. 7 Wondrously show your steadfast love, O Savior of those who seek refuge from their adversaries at your right hand.
Observation:
God is not like man; He is a Spirit. He does not have ears, but He can hear. He does not have eyes, but He can see. He does not have hands, but He can hold His children.
John 4:24 (ESV)
God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth."
David had faith in God, and He was also a man's man. As a young man he took on and killed the giant Goliath; the enemy of God's people. However, David did not hesitate to call upon this invisible God to defend him against his enemies. When we work with our hands we get what we can do; when we pray we get what God can do. I'm not too proud to ask God to help me.
Psalm 17:1-2 (ESV)
1 Hear a just cause, O Lord; attend to my cry! Give ear to my prayer from lips free of deceit! 2 From your presence let my vindication come! Let your eyes behold the right!
David had nothing to hide from God. If we expect God to hear our prayers we must be in right relationship with Him. God hears how we talk and He sees where we walk. We need to guard our hearts; keep them right in God's eyes so that the Lord will hear and answer our prayers.
Psalm 66:18 (ESV)
If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.
Prayer:
Father God, Sovereign Lord, my dear Father, I pray that You will enable me by Your almighty power to have my talk be pleasing to Your ears, and my walk be pleasing to Your eyes. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
Psalm 116:1-2 (ESV)
1 I love the Lord, because he has heard my voice and my pleas for mercy. 2 Because he inclined his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live.

Matthew 4:4 (HCSB)
4 But He answered, "It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God."
Psalm 2:8 (HCSB)
8 Ask of Me, and I will make the nations Your inheritance and the ends of the earth Your possession.
