Title: Are You Living By the Provisions and Power of God?

Text:

Matthew 12:18-21 (NKJV)
18 "Behold! My Servant whom I have chosen, My Beloved in whom My soul is well pleased! I will put My Spirit upon Him, And He will declare justice to the Gentiles. 19 He will not quarrel nor cry out, Nor will anyone hear His voice in the streets. 20 A bruised reed He will not break, And smoking flax He will not quench, Till He sends forth justice to victory; 21 And in His name Gentiles will trust."

Observation:

The text for today is a quotation of Isaiah 42.1-4. The writer of the gospel applies this quotation to Jesus, and His earthly ministry.

Notice what Jesus did, and how He went about carrying out His earthly ministry. Jesus depended upon the provisions and power of God.

Matthew 12:22-23 (NKJV)
22 Then one was brought to Him who was demon-possessed, blind and mute; and He healed him, so that the blind and mute man both spoke and saw. 23 And all the multitudes were amazed and said, "Could this be the Son of David?"

The response of the religious people of the day was not good. What Jesus did was not pleasing to them. However, the goal of Jesus was to please His Father.

Matthew 12:25-27 (NKJV)
25 But Jesus knew their thoughts, and said to them: "Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand. 26 If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand? 27 And if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges.

In doing the will and work of God the servant of God must be careful that we use things and serve people. Don't be found doing the opposite; using people and serving things. O for the grace that each of us would be more like Jesus.

Matthew 12:18 (NKJV)
"Behold! My Servant whom I have chosen, My Beloved in whom My soul is well pleased! I will put My Spirit upon Him, And He will declare justice to the Gentiles.

Prayer:

Father God, I pray that You will give us the grace we need, and the faith to walk in the footsteps of Jesus; that we will look to You for our provisions and power for all things. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Matthew 4:4 (HCSB)
