Title: Three Keys to Victory in the Day of Trouble

Text:

2 Samuel 22:1 (HCSB)
David spoke the words of this song to the Lord on the day the Lord rescued him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul.

2 Samuel 22:4 (HCSB)
I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I was saved from my enemies.

Observation:

It is amazing the power that singing a song from the heart can have upon our attitude in times of trial and testing.

Psalm 59:16 (HCSB)
But I will sing of Your strength and will joyfully proclaim Your faithful love in the morning. For You have been a stronghold for me, a refuge in my day of trouble.

David often relied upon singing to the Lord in his day of trouble. In our text verse four reveals three keys to victory that worked for David and that will work for you in your day of trial and testing. All of us have times of trouble in our life. We should expect trouble, and we should be prepared to handle trouble when they come into our life.

John 16:33 (HCSB)
I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world."

Looking to the Lord is the key to victory. Notice what Jesus said, "I have conquered the world". Here are the three keys to victory in our day of trouble.

2 Samuel 22:4 (HCSB)
I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I was saved from my enemies.

1.       Prayer to the Lord.

2.       Praise of the Lord.

3.       Protection from the Lord.

David knew the source of his help. Therefore, he went to the source that he knew could help him. Here is what he did, "I called to the Lord". You can never go wrong by making prayer your first option.

Not only should we pray; we should fill our prayers with praise. Here is the reason why our prayers should be full of praise. It is good to praise the Lord because as David said, "who is worthy of praise". You can never praise God too much. We praise people with faults; surely we cannot praise the Lord too much because He is perfect.

David saw that his protection came from the Lord. Notice that it came after prayer to the Lord, and praise of the Lord. What a blessing to be able to sing "I was saved from my enemies".

Prayer:

Father God, Lord God Almighty, my soul delights to sing of Your praises. Lord, I am so thankful for the privilege of calling upon the Lord all of the days of my life. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Psalm 18:46 (HCSB)
The Lord lives—may my rock be praised! The God of my salvation is exalted.

Matthew 4:4 (HCSB)
4 But He answered, "It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God."

Psalm 2:8 (HCSB)
8 Ask of Me, and I will make the nations Your inheritance and the ends of the earth Your possession.
