Title: Are You Walking in the Pathway of Blessings?

Text:

Psalm 1:1-3 (ESV)
1 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; 2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. 3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.

Observation:

How you walk before God in the world matters. God desires to bless His people, but God's people must have the discernment to recognize and make right choices in life.

It is clear from the scriptures that not all paths lead to blessings. Here are three things to consider if you want to receive the blessings of the Lord.

1.       Don't walk in the counsel of the wicked.

2.       Don't stand in the way of sinners.

3.       Don't sit in the seat of scoffers.

There are three major problems with sin.

1.       Sin will always take you farther than you wanted to go.

2.       Sin will always keep you longer than you wanted to stay.

3.       Sin will always cost you more than you intended to pay.

So, we see that to have the blessed life you need discernment. However, the blessed life also means having delight. That delight and light comes from God's Word.

Psalm 1:2 (ESV)
but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.

The late Dwight L. Moody, Pastor of the historic Moody Bible Church of Chicago said this about God's Word.

"The Bible will keep you from sin, or sin will keep you from the Bible".

Psalm 119:105 (ESV)
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

Psalm 119:11 (ESV)
I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.

Prayer:

Father God, I thank You for the power of Your Word that will keep me from sin, and the power of the Holy Spirit that will give me discernment to know the way and to go the way that will result in being able to be blessed by You. Father, I pray that all of Your people will be fruitful and flourishing.

Father God, use Your Word in our lives to guide and guard our walk; to give us discernment, and delight our hearts. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Jeremiah 15:16 (ESV)
Your words were found, and I ate them, and your words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart, for I am called by your name, O Lord, God of hosts.

Matthew 4:4 (HCSB)
4 But He answered, "It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God."

Psalm 2:8 (HCSB)
8 Ask of Me, and I will make the nations Your inheritance and the ends of the earth Your possession.
