The Word for wisdom:
Proverbs 2:6-8 (HCSB)
6 For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.
7 He stores up success for the upright; He is a shield for those who live with integrity
8 so that He may guard the paths of justice and protect the way of His loyal followers.
The Word for inspiration:
Psalm 118:7 (HCSB)
7 With the Lord for me as my helper, I will look in triumph on those who hate me.
The Word for encouragement:
Isaiah 30:18 (HCSB)
18 Therefore the Lord is waiting to show you mercy, and is rising up to show you compassion, for the Lord is a just God. Happy are all who wait patiently for Him.
Isaiah 40:31 (HCSB)
31 but those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not faint.
My observation:
With the promise of God's guidance and protection why would the people of God trust in things that cannot help them? That is a good question, and there is no good reason for God's people to rely upon such unreliable sources. Why not place your trust and confidence in the Lord who is waiting to show you mercy and compassion?
God delights to shower his blessings on those who will trust in him. The psalmist discovered the rewards of trusting in a God who can do anything but fail. He shows us how to wait on God.
Psalm 62:5 (HCSB)
5 Rest in God alone, my soul, for my hope comes from Him.
Psalm 37:7 (HCSB)
7 Be silent before the Lord and wait expectantly for Him; do not be agitated by one who prospers in his way, by the man who carries out evil plans.
Psalm 130:5 (HCSB)
5 I wait for the Lord; I wait, and put my hope in His word.
We learn to trust in God and to wait on God when we become devoted to prayer. Jesus showed us the pattern by his prayer life. It worked for Jesus, and it will work for you and me.
Luke 5:16 (HCSB)
16 Yet He often withdrew to deserted places and prayed.
My prayer:
Father God, Abba, Father, I am so grateful for the promise that there is a God in heaven who waits to show his people mercy. Father, mercy suits my condition. Father, in mercy, would you be so kind as to convict and convince your people of the necessity of prayer in our daily lives. Father, teach us to trust in you and to wait on you everyday, and for everything.
