Text:
Psalm 42:5 (HCSB)
5 Why am I so depressed? Why this turmoil within me? Put your hope in God, for I will still praise Him, my Savior and my God.
Psalm 42:11 (HCSB)
11 Why am I so depressed? Why this turmoil within me? Put your hope in God, for I will still praise Him, my Savior and my God.
Observation:
Why is the Psalmist so depressed? He asked the question not two, but three times; twice in Psalm 42, and in Psalm 43.
Psalm 43:5 (HCSB)
5 Why am I so depressed? Why this turmoil within me? Put your hope in God, for I will still praise Him, my Savior and my God.
Could it be that the Psalmist was not living daily in the presence of the Lord? Notice what he says in his cry to God for help.
Psalm 43:1-3 (HCSB)
1 Vindicate me, God, and defend my cause against an ungodly nation; rescue me from the deceitful and unjust man.
2 For You are the God of my refuge. Why have You rejected me? Why must I go about in sorrow because of the enemy's oppression?
3 Send Your light and Your truth; let them lead me. Let them bring me to Your holy mountain, to Your dwelling place.
Why does the Psalmist feel that God has abandoned Him? Could it be that the Psalmist has abandoned the Lord? Notice God's promise to His people.
Hebrews 13:5 (HCSB)
5 Your life should be free from the love of money. Be satisfied with what you have, for He Himself has said, I will never leave you or forsake you.
Do you believe God, or the devil? Do you live by faith, or by fear? Listen to your heavenly Father.
Isaiah 41:10 (HCSB)
10 Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with My righteous right hand.
Prayer:
Father God, we thank You for Your promise to never leave us or forsake us. Father, help us to remember Your promises.
James 4:8 (HCSB)
8 Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, sinners, and purify your hearts, double-minded people!
Father, draw us nearer to You, and help us to rely upon Your presence every moment of our life. Help us to remember this gift you have given us.
Romans 8:9 (HCSB)
9 You, however, are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, since the Spirit of God lives in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.
Father, we thank You for Your presence, peace, power, and provisions. In the mighty name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
Isaiah 55:11 (KJV)
11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
