How to Deal With People Who Are Problems?

Text:

Psalm 52:1 (ESV)

1 Why do you boast of evil, O mighty man? The steadfast love of God endures all the day.

Observation:

This is the setting for Psalm 52:

"To the choirmaster. A Maskil of David, when Doeg, the Edomite, came and told Saul "David has come to the house of Ahimelech."

In this Psalm David is referring to Doeg, who was not only the enemy of David, but also the enemy of God. Doeg was a proud man who boasted about his sin.

There should be a difference in the way proud people talk, and the way godly and humble people talk. David, a man after God's heart, boasted about God.

Psalm 34:2 (ESV)

2  My soul makes its boast in the LORD; let the humble hear and be glad.

Notice the difference in the responses of Doeg and David when they got stressed about a person.

Doeg boasted about his sin, and he went to King Saul and told lies about David.

What did David do? How did David respond? David did not take matters into his own hands. He did not talk about Doeg the sinner, and tell others what an evil man Doeg was. Rather, he rested in the knowledge that God would take care of Doeg.

Psalm 52:5-7 (ESV)

5  But God will break you down forever; he will snatch and tear you from your tent; he will uproot you from the land of the living. Selah

6  The righteous shall see and fear, and shall laugh at him, saying,

7  "See the man who would not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his riches and sought refuge in his own destruction!"

We need to choose our battles carefully. We need to ask the question before opening our mouth in judgement of others, "Who does this battle belong to?"

David learned an important lesson in his season of trouble. He found God to be his protecter in a time of trouble, and wrongs done to him. When you trust in, and give glory to God's name, He will protect your name. What he did for David, He will do for you.

Psalm 52:8 (ESV)

8  But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God. I trust in the steadfast love of God forever and ever.

Why not join with David, and give the name of the LORD some praise for His greatness, and His goodness.

Prayer:

Father, we humble our lives before You, and we give You praise, and exalt your name. Father, we trust in you to protect our name. In the mighty name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

Psalm 52:9 (ESV)

9  I will thank you forever, because you have done it. I will wait for your name, for it is good, in the presence of the godly.

Isaiah 55:11 (KJV)
11  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
