Who Are You Following?

Text:

Mark 14:33-37 (ESV)

33  And he took with him Peter and James and John, and began to be greatly distressed and troubled.

34  And he said to them, "My soul is very sorrowful, even to death. Remain here and watch."

35  And going a little farther, he fell on the ground and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.

36  And he said, "Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Remove this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will."

37  And he came and found them sleeping, and he said to Peter, "Simon, are you asleep? Could you not watch one hour?

Observation:

There is much to be found in today's focal passage, and even more in reading of the entire chapter. But, the portion that is speaking into my heart today is this verse.

Mark 14:36 (ESV)

36  And he said, "Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Remove this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will."

Notice this leap off the page verse; it is the condition that Jesus faced in His life. It was the time when the Father's will was about to be done on earth.

Mark 14:34 (ESV)

34  And he said to them, "My soul is very sorrowful, even to death. Remain here and watch."

Jesus took His closest associates with Him to Gethsemane. However, when He needed them most, they were found asleep.

Mark 14:32 (ESV)

32  And they went to a place called Gethsemane. And he said to his disciples, "Sit here while I pray."

What did Jesus talk to the Father about?

Mark 14:36 (ESV)

36  And he said, "Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Remove this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will."

Let's pray the Our Father prayer that Jesus taught His disciples to pray. Surely we can stay awake for 21 seconds.

Prayer:

Matthew 6:9-13 (KJV)

9  After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

10  Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

11  Give us this day our daily bread.

12  And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

13  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

--

Isaiah 55:11 (KJV)
11  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
