Title: Where Do You Stand?
Text:
Philippians 1:15-18 (HCSB)
15 To be sure, some preach Christ out of envy and strife, but others out of good will.
16 These do so out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel;
17 the others proclaim Christ out of rivalry, not sincerely, seeking to cause me anxiety in my imprisonment.
18 What does it matter? Just that in every way, whether out of false motives or true, Christ is proclaimed. And in this I rejoice. Yes, and I will rejoice.
Observation:
The KJV renders this passage this way.
Philippians 1:16-17 (KJV)
16 The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds:
17 But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel.
It is obvious that the problem which existed in Philippi is still alive today. There is, to be sure, some who preach Christ out of envy and strife, or contention. But, thank You Lord that there are some who preach Christ out of love.
Where do you stand? Where there is envy, there is strife. Conversely, where there is love, there is unity.
I associate myself with the view expressed by the Apostle Paul. He was able to make the main thing the main thing. This is were Paul stood, and where I stand.
Philippians 1:18 (HCSB)
18 What does it matter? Just that in every way, whether out of false motives or true, Christ is proclaimed. And in this I rejoice. Yes, and I will rejoice.
When Christ is proclaimed are you able to rejoice? If so, let the church say, Amen (It is true, I agree).
Prayer:
Father, hallowed be Your name. Father, I pray that You would bind Your people together with the strong chords of love and humility so that we will be able to stand firm in daring faith, and courage in the preaching of the gospel of Christ. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
Isaiah 55:11 (KJV)
11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
