Title: Why Not Use This Plan Before You Get In Trouble?

Text:

Psalm 79:8-9 (ESV)

8  Do not remember against us our former iniquities; let your compassion come speedily to meet us, for we are brought very low.

9  Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of your name; deliver us, and atone for our sins, for your name's sake!

Observation:

The Psalmist laments the state into which the nation has fallen because of their sins. Judgement has come upon the people of God.

The Problem:

Psalm 79:1-2 (ESV)

1 O God, the nations have come into your inheritance; they have defiled your holy temple; they have laid Jerusalem in ruins.

2  They have given the bodies of your servants to the birds of the heavens for food, the flesh of your faithful to the beasts of the earth.

The Prayer of Asaph:

Psalm 79:8 (ESV)

8  Do not remember against us our former iniquities; let your compassion come speedily to meet us, for we are brought very low.

Here is a nice outline that will preach; borrowed from Butler.

The Memory of God

The Mercy of God

The Method of God

The lesson for us is that we need to be prepared in our personal walk with the Lord. There is an enemy of our God, and our soul who wishes to defeat and destroy our witness and our life.

1 Corinthians 10:12 (ESV)

12  Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.

Luke 22:31 (ESV)

31  "Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat,

There is goodnews for us, and it is this:

1 Corinthians 10:13 (ESV)

13  No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

Ephesians 6:11 (ESV)

11  Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.

Don't try to take on the devil in your strength alone. Rather, put on the whole armor of God that Paul describes in Ephesians chapter six. And, don't forget to pray.

Ephesians 6:18 (ESV)

18  praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,

Prayer:

Father, hallowed be Thy name; Father, You are great and You are so good to Your people.

Father, helps us to remember our insufficiency and Your sufficiency; that in our strength alone that we are no match for the enemy of our soul.

Father, our only hope is to look to You, and to depend upon You, and the strength that You provide to defeat the enemy of our soul. Father, I pray that all of us would learn to dressed for spiritual warfare everyday and to stay in touch with our Father by praying always. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Isaiah 55:11 (KJV)
11  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
