Title: The Benefits of Being Thankful

Text:

Hebrews 12:28-29 (ESV)
28 Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe,
29 for our God is a consuming fire.

Observation:

In this world with all of its troubles and problems it is comforting for God's people to have a place of refuge from the storms of life.

Deuteronomy 33:27 (ESV)
27 The eternal God is your dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms. And he thrust out the enemy before you and said, 'Destroy.'

Psalm 91:9-11 (ESV)
9 Because you have made the LORD your dwelling place— the Most High, who is my refuge—
10 no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.

John 16:33 (ESV)
33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world."

One of best ways for us to have peace in the midst of our storm tossed lives is to live in the presence of the Lord. When trouble come; expect it, and turn to the Lord who has promised to be your refuge. Rather than grumble and complain; have an attitude of gratitude; be thankful to the Lord for His presence and His protection.

Psalm 107:1 (ESV)
1 Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!

Prayer:

Lord God Almighty, I am so thankful for the privilege of being a child of God, and the peace that comes from living in the presence of the Lord.

Father God, there is nothing more comforting than knowing that the Lord is with His people; that You are our refuge and our peace. Lord, draw us closer to You. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Song:

Thou my everlasting Portion,

More than friend or life to me,

All along my pilgrim journey,

Savior, let me walk with Thee.

Close to Thee, close to Thee,

Close to Thee, close to Thee;

All along my pilgrim journey,

Savior, let me walk with Thee.
