The Word of God for wisdom:

Proverbs 26:3 (HCSB)
3 A whip for the horse, a bridle for the donkey, and a rod for the backs of fools.

The Word of God for inspiration:

Psalm 91:9-11 (HCSB)
9
Because you have made the LORD—my refuge, the Most High—your dwelling place,
10
no harm will come to you; no plague will come near your tent.
11 For He will give His angels orders concerning you, to protect you in all your ways.

The Word of God for encouragement:

2 Timothy 2:1 (HCSB)
1 You, therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

My observation:

In our walk through this world we soon discover that life is not a bed of roses when you are a servant of God. Being a believer does not come with a pass that exempts you from the troubles of this world. You will find that friends are few, and even those you trust will disappoint you.

Let's examine what the therefore is there for in Paul's encouragement to Timothy. Paul wanted Timothy to consider what had happen to him.

2 Timothy 1:13-15 (HCSB)
13
Hold on to the pattern of sound teaching that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.
14
Guard, through the Holy Spirit who lives in us, that good thing entrusted to you.
15 This you know: All those in Asia have turned away from me, including Phygelus and Hermogenes.

You may not always be able to count on the support of your friends. However, you will always be able to depend upon your God. You can stand on the promises of God when everything around you appears to be crumbling and falling apart. Learn what to hold on to, and what to let go.

You have to be strong to be an effective servant of the Lord. The strength needed is not physical, but spiritual, and you need it continuously. You cannot be strong in the Lord if you are not feeding daily on God's word, and always in prayer.

2 Timothy 2:15 (HCSB)
15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who doesn't need to be ashamed, correctly teaching the word of truth.

2 Timothy 1:3 (HCSB)
3 I thank God, whom I serve with a clear conscience as my ancestors did, when I constantly remember you in my prayers night and day.

My prayer:

Our Father in heaven, my dear Father, I am so thankful that the grace of God is sufficient for any need we will ever encounter in our walk through this world. Father, I pray that you will enable us by the Spirit of God to be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. Lord, help us by the power of the Spirit of God to hold on to what is good and that will make us strong in the Lord. In Jesus name, Amen.
