The Word of God for wisdom:
Proverbs 25:15 (HCSB)
15 A ruler can be persuaded through patience, and a gentle tongue can break a bone.
The Word of God for inspiration:
Psalm 83:18 (HCSB)
18 May they know that You alone— whose name is Yahweh— are the Most High over all the earth.
The Word of God for encouragement:
1 Thessalonians 5:11-13 (HCSB)
11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up as you are already doing.
12 Now we ask you, brothers, to give recognition to those who labor among you and lead you in the Lord and admonish you,
13 and to regard them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves.
My observation:
Today concludes our reading through Paul's first letter to the Thessalonians. In his closing remarks, the last sentence in the selected passage is my focus for today. What a goal for this church, and what a goal for any church?
"Be at peace among yourselves".
Notice the good things that Paul was able to say about this church, and remember they were only in existence for about three months.
They had learned to encourage and build each other up, and Paul encouraged them to keep on doing what they were doing.
Then, he emphasized the priority of prayer. A people and a church that prays can be an instrument through which God can do his work by his power.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 (HCSB)
17 Pray constantly.
1 Thessalonians 5:25 (HCSB)
25 Brothers, pray for us also.
Paul also sets the example by praying for them, and I conclude by praying his prayer for you; my family and friends.
My prayer:
Father God, will you give peace and purity to your people. Father, may we do our part by praying for one another. In Jesus name, Amen.
1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 (HCSB)
23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely. And may your spirit, soul, and body be kept sound and blameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.
