What You Hear When You Stop and Listen

Text:

Psalm 46:10 (ESV)

10  "Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!"

Observation:

Yesterday, I talked about the wisdom of guarding our mouth, and knowing when being silent is wisdom.

Today, the Lord is speaking into my heart about the wisdom of guarding our whole life by knowing when to be still.

Let's hit the pause button, and spend a few minutes listening to what the Lord would say to us today from His Word.

Psalm 37:7 (ESV)

7  Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!

Isaiah 30:15 (HCSB)

15  For the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel, has said: "You will be delivered by returning and resting; your strength will lie in quiet confidence. But you are not willing."

Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)

31  But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

It's amazing how being still and being silent go together. O, how we need to shut out the voices of worry that speak so loudly in our ears, and tune our hearts and ears to hear the voice of the Lord.

Exodus 14:14 (ESV)

14  The LORD will fight for you, and you have only to be silent."

Psalm 62:5 (ESV)

5  For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him.

Job 6:24 (ESV)

24  "Teach me, and I will be silent; make me understand how I have gone astray.

Is the Lord sufficient for your life?  Can you get more help and strength from the voices of worry or the voice of God?

Psalm 46:1 (ESV)

1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Psalm 46:10 (ESV)

10  "Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!"

Prayer:

Father, there is none like You; no not one. Father, we delight to be in Your presence, and to have access to the peace and the power that You give to Your people.

Father, we need the tutoring of the Holy Spirit to guide and help us to be still and to be silent before You. In the mighty name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

--

Isaiah 55:11 (KJV)
11  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
