Title: 4 Traits of Christ Followers
Text:
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 (ESV)
13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. 14 For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. 15 For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.
Observation:
What do you need to do more of to be pleasing to God?
"At the end of the day, the questions we ask of ourselves determine the type of people that we will become." {Leo Babauta}
Think about what Paul said in this verse.
1 Thessalonians 4:1 (ESV)
Finally, then, brothers, we ask and urge you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God, just as you are doing, that you do so more and more.
A good question to ask ourselves is this, What do I need to do more of in my daily walk with God?
Paul admonished and encouraged the recipients of his letter to continue to do what they were already doing, but to do it more and more. He urged them to walk, and to please God more and more in the areas of holiness, love, quietness, and hope.
Paul commended them earlier in his letter because they were already walking in a manner pleasing to the Lord.
1 Thessalonians 1:2-3 (ESV)
2 We give thanks to God always for all of you, constantly mentioning you in our prayers, 3 remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
Prayer:
Father God, Our dear Father, I am so glad for the enduring truth of the Word of God. Father, I am so thankful that what was true and possible then is still true and possible today. Father, I pray that You will find us faithful in walking in holiness, love, quietness, and hope. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
Isaiah 55:11 (KJV)
11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
