Title: Do You Have Inner Peace?

Text:

John 8:12 (HCSB)

Then Jesus spoke to them again: "I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows Me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life."

Observation:

I woke up this morning with the word peace on my mind. I turned my thoughts toward the Lord; then I looked to God's Word for a word from the Lord. This is what I was prompted to read.

1 Corinthians 9:26 (HCSB)

26  Therefore I do not run like one who runs aimlessly or box like one beating the air.

This verse was the focal verse for a devotional that I read on my iPad that I had near my bed. The topic for that devotional was, "Make Godly Goals".

I am encouraged by the first portion of the verse which says, "Therefore I do not run like one who runs aimlessly". Notice how the Apostle Paul viewed his body as he talked about the goal of his life.

1 Corinthians 9:26-27 (HCSB)

26  Therefore I do not run like one who runs aimlessly or box like one beating the air.

27  Instead, I discipline my body and bring it under strict control, so that after preaching to others, I myself will not be disqualified.

There are three things that Paul said about how he lived his life so that he might achieve the goal of being pleasing in the eyes of his heavenly Father, and fulfill his purpose for being alive in this present world.

1 Corinthians 9:19 (ESV)

19  For though I am free from all, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win more of them.

1 Corinthians 9:25 (ESV)

25  Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.

1 Corinthians 9:12 (ESV)

12  If others share this rightful claim on you, do not we even more? Nevertheless, we have not made use of this right, but we endure anything rather than put an obstacle in the way of the gospel of Christ.

These three things are worth remembering, and becoming.

  1. Servant
  2. Self-Control
  3. Endure

Prayer:

Father, hallowed be Your name. Father, help each one of us to set godly goals for our life on the earth. Father, help us to be the person that You purposed us to be.

Father, I pray that every person who hears this message will know You, and will have the power of the Holy Spirit living in them that will give them the power to know and do the will of God. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

1 John 5:14-15 (ESV)

14  And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.

15  And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.

--

Isaiah 55:11 (KJV)
11  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
