Title: How To Deal With Temptations

Text:

1 Corinthians 10:12-13 (ESV)

12  Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.

13  No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

Observation:

We must admit that we all face temptations; if you are human, you will face temptations. However, temptation is not a sin; it's the yielding to temptation that is the sin.

Next, we must acknowledge that we need the help of the Lord in every step that we take. We need to heed the warning of verse twelve.

1 Corinthians 10:12 (ESV)

12  Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.

Jesus gave us the pattern we should use in our daily prayers. We need to ask the Father for His help in dealing with the temptations that we will face; this is how Jesus taught us to pray:

Matthew 6:13 (ESV)

13  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Don't make the mistake of misunderstanding this verse; God does not tempt anyone. Our prayer should be Lord; you know what I'm made of, and how much I can bear, so lead me around the temptations you know I will not have the faith to take the way of escape. I know the Lord does not lead us into temptation; He will fill our hearts with His Holy Spirit if we will walk with the Lord in His way.

James 1:13-14 (ESV)

13  Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am being tempted by God," for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one.

14  But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire.

Prayer:

Father, hallowed be Your name. Father, You are holy and righteous in all Your ways. Father, lead and guide us, and give us sufficient faith to lean upon you, and not upon our own understanding.

Father, fill our hearts with the Holy Spirit of God, and give us sufficient grace and mercy to walk in the way of the Lord, In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

--

Isaiah 55:11 (KJV)
11  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
