Title: Who Has the Better Plan?
Text:
Proverbs 16:1 (ESV)
1 The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the LORD.
Observation:
Last week I had ninety minutes of wait time so I went to a nearby restaurant where I could find a place to get out of the heat, and wait. However, while I was waiting I wanted to redeem the time. I already had breakfast so I decided to get a cup or coffee and apple juice. I had one side of the restaurant to myself for most of the time.
I turned to my phone where I had my bible and other resources, but discovered that my battery was low, and I did not have my charger. However, I had my New Testament with Psalms and Proverbs so I turned to the Proverb for that day; Proverbs 17. I used the only paper I had available; the receipt and the placemat. I read and took notes on Proverbs 16-18.
Today's focal verse is so appropriate for what is in my heart as I write this. Notice what Solomon says, "The plans of the heart belong to man". I had a plan when I left home, but God had another plan. He wanted me to spend 90 minutes with Him in His Word.
What will it take to convince us that God's plans are so much better than our plans?
Matthew 10:19-20 (ESV)
19 When they deliver you over, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say, for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour.
20 For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.
What problems are you facing today as you read these words from the Word of God?
There is nothing that you are currently facing that is too difficult for God. Why not use some of your time to spend time with God in prayer. You will be amazed at what He will put into your heart, and what will come out of your mouth. The more time you spend in the presence of the Lord, the more you become like Jesus.
Prayer:
Father, hallowed be your most holy and righteous name. Father, I am so thankful that we have a God who delights to spend time alone with us in prayer.
Father, when we open our hearts you are so faithful to fill our hearts with your Word and Spirit. Then, when we open our mouth to speak we are able to speak the wonderful and wondrous words that you speak into our hearts. Father, fill us with power, and stir our hearts to pray with faith and with fire. Father, set our souls afire. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
Isaiah 55:11 (KJV)
11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
