Title: Where Are You in Your Relationship with God?

Text:

Isaiah 55:1-3 (ESV)

1  "Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.

2  Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food.

3  Incline your ear, and come to me; hear, that your soul may live; and I will make with you an everlasting covenant, my steadfast, sure love for David.

James 4:8 (ESV)

8  Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Observation:

When people are having problems in their life it should be a bright light that you need to examine your relationship with the Lord. A friend's comment recently prompted me to think about this topic. This is my attempt to ask some thoughtful questions for us to consider:

  1. Do you know the Lord?
  2. Does He know me as His blood purchased daughter or son?
  3. Am I as close to God as I once was?
  4. When is the last time I had a conversation with Him where I told Him how much I love Him?
  5. How often do I read the Bible?
  6. How often do I pray?
  7. How regularly do I gather with the Household of Faith to worship the Lord?
  8. How often do I ask a person a question, and then listen for their response giving them my complete attention?

This is not an exhaustive list of questions, but a few that are designed to draw us closer to God.

When we are close to the Lord we may have downcast days, but we will not be defeated. It is because we have an anchor; it is built on the solid rock of Jesus Christ, and not on sinking sand.

Deuteronomy 33:27 (NLT)

27  The eternal God is your refuge, and his everlasting arms are under you. He drives out the enemy before you; he cries out, 'Destroy them!'

Prayer:

Father, hallowed be Thy most holy and righteous name. Father, I plead mercy and grace for those who have drifted from You, and for those who have never known You.

Father, I cry out for the Holy Spirit of God to open their eyes to their need that only You can fill. Father, have mercy on all of us, and I make this my supplication in the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.

--

Isaiah 55:11 (KJV)
11  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
