Title: Who Do You Trust More?

Text:

2 Corinthians 12:9 (ESV)

9  But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Observation:

The choice word for today is "weakness". I am reading through the book of James in conjunction with a preaching series on James. This verse comes to mind when I think about trials in the lives of God's people.

James 1:2 (NLT)

2  Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.

It is normal for us not to be happy or joyful when our problems are so many or so large that we feel inadequate and unable of handling them.

Are you ready for a change in the way that you look at your trials and your troubles? Are you prepared to believe and rely upon a source that has the strength and the resources to meet your needs?

Are you ready to exchange your inadequacy for the opportunity to turn to God and His sufficiency? Do you trust your self-sufficiency and Government provisions more than you trust God?

Here is how God provides for His people when they look to Him, come to Him, and trust in Him for all of their needs.

James 1:2-4 (NLT)

2  Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.

3  For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.

4  So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.

Prayer:

Father God, my dear Father, I am so grateful that I have a God in heaven who sits high, but looks low; a God who loves and cares for all of His beloved children.

Father, help us all to pray; to be willing to surrender our weaknesses to You, and exchange them for Your strength. Father, when trials sweep us off our feet, lead us to fall on our knees and pray to the only one who is able to deliver us. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Psalm 62:8 (ESV)

8  Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. Selah

Matthew 4:4 (HCSB)
4 But He answered, "It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God."

Psalm 2:8 (HCSB)
8 Ask of Me, and I will make the nations Your inheritance and the ends of the earth Your possession.
