Title: Do You Know Your Purpose?

Text:

Jeremiah 1:5 (ESV)
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations."

Observation:

My daughter's post on Facebook recently generated a request from one of her friends that I write about purpose.

I read the above text recently; so I will use it as an opportunity to respond to the request to reflect on the topic of God's purpose for His people.

This is what I know about God's purpose. God has chosen to give His people a purpose and place in the work of building the kingdom of God.

What God looks at His people He does not look at our ability for the task; rather, He looks for our availability. I am so glad that our sufficiency is in God, and not in ourselves.

2 Corinthians 2:15-16 (ESV)
15 For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing, 16 to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life. Who is sufficient for these things?

We can expect the task to be difficult, but we should not allow that to discourage us from staying faithful to our purpose. We can expect that God will care for us, and provide us with the means to fulfill our purpose.

Jeremiah 1:8 (ESV)
Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you, declares the Lord."

Jeremiah 1:19 (ESV)
They will fight against you, but they shall not prevail against you, for I am with you, declares the Lord, to deliver you."

Prayer:

Our Father in heaven, Sovereign Lord, my dear Father, I am so grateful that our purpose is tailor made for us, and that if we are faithful in doing our part; we know that we can count on You to be faithful in doing Your part.

Father God, I pray that each of us would learn to keep our focus on our God, and not on our circumstances and critics. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Ephesians 3:20-21 (ESV)
20 Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Matthew 4:4 (HCSB)
4 But He answered, "It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God."

Psalm 2:8 (HCSB)
8 Ask of Me, and I will make the nations Your inheritance and the ends of the earth Your possession.
