Title: Do You Pray About Everything?

Text:

James 5:13-18 (ESV)
13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. 17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. 18 Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit.

Observation:

The chorus of this hymn is in my head this morning:

"It's me, it's me, O Lord,
standing in the need of prayer;
it's me, it's me, O Lord,
standing in the need of prayer."

I had a conversation with a friend yesterday, and we talked about prayer. Although we now live thousands of miles apart, we still get together weekly for fellowship and prayer. There is nothing sweeter this side of heaven than to get together with God's people, and commune and connect with our heavenly Father in prayer.

Our text for today includes all types of prayer; it starts with prayers for the suffering, and it ends with prayer about the weather. Yes, there is nothing beyond the reach of prayer. Remember this, "The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working". (James 5:16b)

Do you pray about everything?

Philippians 4:6 (NLT)
Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.

Prayer:

Our Father in heaven, my dear Father, I am so grateful for the privilege and the power of prayer; for the opportunity it affords to commune and to connect with You. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

O the pure delight of a single hour
That before Thy throne I spend,
When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God,
I commune as friend with friend!
