Observation:
There are times when we need a little talk, and there are other times when we need a big talk with our heavenly Father.
In our focal passage for today King David needed a big talk with the Lord. David had troubles without (vv.1-3), and terror within (vv. 4-5). David knew who to call upon. He sought the Lord in prayer. David was trembling, but he could still talk.
Psalm 55:1 (ESV)
1 Give ear to my prayer, O God, and hide not yourself from my plea for mercy!
One of the things that we know about David is that he trusted in the Lord with his whole heart. He did not pray as a last resort; prayer was primary is his relationship with the Lord. David was familiar with prayer and with the Lord. The Lord delights in those who know his name.
Psalm 9:9-10 (ESV)
9 The LORD is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.
10 And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek you.
So when David was facing trouble without and terror within, he took his problems to the Lord in prayer. It takes faith in God to do what David did. When you give the Lord access to your problems, he will take care of his family.
Psalm 55:22 (ESV)
22 Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.
Prayer:
Father God, my dear Father, I am so thankful for the knowledge that you are a God who delights to listen to the prayers of your beloved people. Father, in the words of the hymn of old, "Long as I live and troubles rise; I'll hasten to your throne". Lord, I believe; and in faith I look up to you. In Jesus name, Amen.

Acts 6:4 (KJV)
4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.
