Daily Prayer_May 4, 2012

The Word of God for wisdom:

Proverbs 14:25 (ESV)
25 A truthful witness saves lives, but one who breathes out lies is deceitful.

The Word of God for inspiration:

Psalm 105:1-4 (ESV)
1
Oh give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples!
2
Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works!
3
Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice!
4 Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually!

The Word of God for encouragement:

John 4:39-42 (ESV)
39
Many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman's testimony, "He told me all that I ever did."
40
So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there two days.
41
And many more believed because of his word.
42 They said to the woman, "It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Savior of the world."

My observation:

The verse that leaps off the page and into my heart today is John 4.42. Who is this woman that had such an influence on the people of her community? Well, she met Jesus, her life was changed, and she told others her story.

John 4:7-9 (ESV)
7
A woman from Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, "Give me a drink."
8
(For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.)
9 The Samaritan woman said to him, "How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a woman of Samaria?" (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)

There is power to change lives when we tell others our story. Like the woman at the well, go back to your community, and tell your story. Even the insignificant can be the vehicle through which others can gain insight.

John 4:39 (ESV)
39 Many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman's testimony, "He told me all that I ever did."

John 4:42 (ESV)
42 They said to the woman, "It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Savior of the world."

My prayer:

Our Father in heaven, my dear Father, I pray that I will use every opportunity to tell others of what the Lord has done for me. Father, help us all to be like the Samaritan woman in telling our story, and like the psalmist. Amen.

Psalm 105:1 (ESV)
1 Oh give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples!

4 For everything created by God is good, and nothing should be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving,
5 since it is sanctified by the word of God and by prayer.
