The Word for wisdom:

Proverbs 2:6-8 (NLT)
6 For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding. 7 He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity. 8 He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to him.

The Word for inspiration:

Psalm 119:97 (MSG)
Oh, how I love all you've revealed; I reverently ponder it all the day long.

Psalm 119:101-104 (MSG)
101 I watch my step, avoiding the ditches and ruts of evil so I can spend all my time keeping your Word. 102 I never make detours from the route you laid out; you gave me such good directions. 103 Your words are so choice, so tasty; I prefer them to the best home cooking. 104 With your instruction, I understand life; that's why I hate false propaganda.

The Word for encouragement:

James 1:22-25 (NLT)
22 But don't just listen to God's word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. 23 For if you listen to the word and don't obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. 24 You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. 25 But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don't forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.

My observation:

The School of Wisdom is one that we never graduate from. It is a school that I delight in attending, and like the Psalmist, I love the textbook.

However, James gives us some encouragement in what we need to do to be successful in using the textbook that we know as the bible. In the School of Wisdom we must be not only hearers, but also doers of the word.

There is no profit in being an auditor. When I was in college I knew of some students who audited classes. They may have been good listeners, but they did not achieve any credits for just listening. Are you an auditor or a doer of the word of God?

My desire is to be in that class of listeners and doers that the Apostle Paul described in his letter to the church at Corinth.

2 Corinthians 3:2-3 (NLT)
2 The only letter of recommendation we need is you yourselves. Your lives are a letter written in our hearts; everyone can read it and recognize our good work among you. 3 Clearly, you are a letter from Christ showing the result of our ministry among you. This "letter" is written not with pen and ink, but with the Spirit of the living God. It is carved not on tablets of stone, but on human hearts.

My prayer:

Father God, my dear Father, I pray for the desire and the determination to be a hearer and a doer of the word of God. Father, make my life a living bible that others can read and see the Savior in me.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (HCSB)
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; 6 think about Him in all your ways, and He will guide you on the right paths.

  1. What is your greatest desire?

My desire is to be in that class of listeners and doers that the Apostle Paul described in his letter to the church at Corinth.

    Think about it.
