How Should You Walk in Perilous Times?

Text:

2 Timothy 3:1 (ESV)

1  But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty.

Observation:

The last days started after Jesus completed His work on earth, and returned to the Father in heaven. He alerted His disciples, and us today through His Word.

There is an encouraging word from the lips of Jesus alerting His disciples of the conditions they would face in the world, and giving them hope and a plan for living in perilous times.

John 16:33 (ESV)

33  I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world."

One of the important things that every child of God needs to do everyday is feed the spiritual person; the inner man. There is no substitute for the Word of God, and prayer.

Hebrews 4:12 (ESV)

12  For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Ephesians 6:18 (HCSB)

18  Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request, and stay alert in this with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints.

You are never more like Jesus than when you are devoted to the Word of God, and prayer. Jesus was never too busy to pray, and neither should Christ followers.

Mark 1:35 (HCSB)

35  Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, He got up, went out, and made His way to a deserted place. And He was praying there.

Colossians 4:2 (HCSB)

2  Devote yourselves to prayer; stay alert in it with thanksgiving.

Prayer:

Father, I lift Your name high above every name on earth, and in heaven. Father, I acknowledge You as Sovereign LORD; God Almighty.

Father, I thank You for the example of Jesus, and I ask for sufficient faith, hope, and love to walk in His steps. Father, tune my heart to desire the things that are eternal, and not temporal. I ask not just for me, but for all of Christ followers. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Isaiah 55:11 (KJV)
11  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
