Title: Why Does Faith Matter?

Text:

Hebrews 11:1-3 (HCSB)

1  Now faith is the reality of what is hoped for, the proof of what is not seen.

2  For our ancestors won God's approval by it.

3  By faith we understand that the universe was created by God's command, so that what is seen has been made from things that are not visible.

Observation:

The exercise of faith has great power. However, the source of the power lies not in the one who has faith or in the quantity of the faith. Rather, the power of faith lies in the object of the faith. Therefore, the greatness of faith lies in God, who is the object of the faith of Christ followers.

No where is this more evident than in the prayer of God's people. The bible teaches that God welcomes the prayers of His people; it is His means of communicating with His children.

1 John 5:14-15 (HCSB)

14  Now this is the confidence we have before Him: Whenever we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.

15  And if we know that He hears whatever we ask, we know that we have what we have asked Him for.

There is great power in praying for one another when the object of our prayer is the Sovereign God; I'm talking about the creator God who is able to make something out of nothing; who makes things that can be seen out of things that are not visible.

Why not, by faith, take everything to God in prayer; you have His Word to believe, and your mouth to ask.

Lyrics of the Hymn by Jeremiah Rankin - Tell It to Jesus

"1 Are you weary, are you heavyhearted?

Tell it to Jesus,

Tell it to Jesus;

Are you grieving over joys departed?

Tell it to Jesus alone.

Chorus:

Tell it to Jesus, tell it to Jesus,

He is a friend that's well-known;

You've no other such a friend or brother,

Tell it to Jesus alone."

Prayer:

Father, I'm so thankful for the privilege that we have of taking everything to You in prayer.

Father, I ask that You would stir the hearts of Your people to cry out to You in these desperate times, and in daring faith for You to help us, heal us, and give us hope.

Father, if we ever needed You, we sure do need You now. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Isaiah 55:11 (KJV)
11  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
