Title: Do You Know What It Means to Be Loved?

Text:

Psalm 116:1-2 (HCSB)

1  I love the LORD because He has heard my appeal for mercy.

2  Because He has turned His ear to me, I will call ⌊out to Him⌋ as long as I live.

Observation:

One of the greatest needs of the human heart is to be loved. A few days ago I was struck by a comment made by a person who said, "I have never been loved like that".

We all need someone in our life that we can rely upon. The foundation for the life of the Psalmist is revealed in this Psalm.

Psalm 31:1-2 (HCSB)

1 LORD, I seek refuge in You; let me never be disgraced. Save me by Your righteousness.

2  Listen closely to me; rescue me quickly. Be a rock of refuge for me, a mountain fortress to save me.

The Lord Jesus knew the importance of love. He said this in what is referred to as The Greatest or Primary Commandment.

Mark 12:28-31 (HCSB)

28  One of the scribes approached. When he heard them debating and saw that Jesus answered them well, he asked Him, "Which command is the most important of all?"

29  "This is the most important," Jesus answered: Listen, Israel! The Lord our God, the Lord is One.

30  Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.

31  "The second is: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other command greater than these."

We have a lot of issues and problems in our world. What we can do in our personal relationships is to obey The Primary Commandment. The great value of love is that it will last forever.

1 Corinthians 13:13 (NLT)

13  Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.

Prayer:

Father, I exalt Your name above every name on earth and in heaven. Father, You are worthy to be praised.

Father, I thank You for loving us with an everlasting love; a love that never fails, and that never gives up on us.

Father, stir our hearts with a burning desire, and the faith to trust in You to enable us to fulfill the primary commandment to love You, love others, and to love ourselves. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

--

Isaiah 55:11 (KJV)
11  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
