Title: Why Love Is The Greatest Gift
Text:
1 Corinthians 13:8-13 (ESV)
8 Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.
9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part,
10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.
11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways.
12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.
13 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
Observation:
In my recent reading of 1 Corinthians 13 I came to a keener understanding of the gravity of what the Apostle Paul wrote on the significance of love.
I put together the first portion of verse eight, "Love never ends", with verse thirteen, and I got an exalted view of love; God is love, and God lives in the hearts of His people. Hallelujah!
1 Corinthians 13:13 (ESV)
13 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
Why will love last? The Bible tells us the answer in this verse.
1 John 4:8 (ESV)
8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.
Is God alive in you?
Romans 5:5 (ESV)
5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
Love puts eternity into life. Do you have the love of God abiding in you? Have you received Jesus? If you have, you have this promise.
John 1:12-13 (ESV)
12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,
13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
Prayer:
Father, I bow in awe, and raise my hands in praise and thanksgiving for the love of God that has been poured into our hearts. Father, I am so grateful that love puts eternity into life.
John 5:24 (ESV
24 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.
Father, I pray that You would stir up in each of us a burning desire to be demonstrations of the love of God to a watching world. In the might name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
Isaiah 55:11 (KJV)
11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
