Title: Do You Know Him?
Text:
Luke 24:15 (ESV)
15 While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself drew near and went with them.
Observation:
The lyrics of this song are on my mind as I sat here contemplating what I'm going to meditate upon this morning. It's a song we sang in the worship service yesterday.
"You're a good, good Father.
It's who You are, it's who You are, it's who You are.
And I'm loved by You.
It's who I am, it's who I am, it's who I am."
The focal verse reminds me that the people of the first century really didn't know who Jesus was.
Over two-thousand years later there are many who do not know who Jesus is. The burden on my heart is this, "Do You Know Him?".
Shortly after the resurrection of Jesus we have the story of two men who had an encounter with Jesus. This is their story.
Luke 24:13-15 (ESV)
13 That very day two of them were going to a village named Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem,
14 and they were talking with each other about all these things that had happened.
15 While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself drew near and went with them.
These two men had a problem, and it was this.
Luke 24:16 (ESV)
16 But their eyes were kept from recognizing him.
However, this is not the end of the story; there was help for them, and there is hope and help for us. Spending time with Jesus will open our blinded eyes.
Luke 24:31-32 (ESV)
31 And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And he vanished from their sight.
32 They said to each other, "Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?"
Prayer:
Father, hallowed be Your name. Father, I am so thankful that I can sing that you are a good Father.
O, the blessing of knowing that I am loved by you because of who you are; its who I am.
O how I love Jesus because He is the reason for who I am. I pray that anyone who does not know Jesus would get to know Him, and become a child of God. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
Isaiah 55:11 (KJV)
11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
