Title: How To Live In This Present Age?
Text:
1 Peter 2:15-16 (ESV)
15 For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people.
16 Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God.
Observation:
I woke up this morning with this scripture on my mind. It came at a good time because our pastor has been preaching a series onThe Signs of the End Times.
The people who Peter wrote to in the first century were being slandered by others. He gave them this encouragement of how to live when the world has gone mad.
1 Peter 2:12 (ESV)
12 Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.
1 Peter 2:15 (ESV)
15 For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people.
1 Peter 2:21-23 (ESV)
21 For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps.
22 He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth.
23 When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly.
Our greatest enemy today is not the people who treat us wrong. Our enemy is much larger than those people. Here is what the Word of God says about the enemy of our soul.
Ephesians 6:12 (HCSB)
12 For our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens.
Ephesians 2:2 (NLT)
2 You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God.
The best thing that we can do in this present age is to put on the whole armor of God, and live a godly life.
"If what they say about you is true, mend your ways. If it isn't true, forget it, and go on and serve the Lord." H. A. Ironside
Prayer:
Father God, my dear Father, I am so thankful that You have not left us alone or defenseless as we live in this present age.
Father, help us to never forget that living in this world is a battleground, and not a playground.
Father, help us to remember to dress for the battle every day, and to pray without ceasing. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
Ephesians 6:11 (NLT)
11 Put on all of God's armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.
Ephesians 6:18 (NLT)
18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
Isaiah 55:11 (KJV)
11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
