Title: What Can You Do with What You Have?
Text:
Psalm 9:1-2 (ESV)
1 I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds. 2 I will be glad and exult in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.
Observation:
There are times in our life when we get down on ourselves, and sometimes we might even get discouraged. However, the good news is that this is not the end of the story; in times like this we can change our focus from our problems, and direct our focus to our Savior. It's time to look up; the Psalmist said it like this.
Psalm 121:1-2 (ESV)
1 I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? 2 My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
I remember singing this hymn growing up in my home church.
"Sometimes I feel discouraged
and think my work's in vain,
but then the Holy Spirit
revives my soul again.
There is a balm in Gilead
to make the wounded whole,
there is a balm in Gilead
to heal the sin-sick soul."
Like David, the Psalmist, you have a story to tell and a song to sing; so why not tell it and sing it until the whole world knows that Jesus saves; He saves from the uttermost to the gutter most.
"If you cannot preach like Peter,
if you cannot pray like Paul,
you can tell the love of Jesus
and say, "He died for all."
Prayer:
Father God, when things get hard down here, and we get discouraged; Lord, I ask You to help us to look up to Jesus, and find the help and the strength to fight on. Lord, not in our strength, but the strength of the Lord is what we need. O, Holy Spirit, revive our hearts, and set our souls on fire for God, and for souls. In the mighty name of Jesus, let the Church say, Amen.
