Title: Did You Know That Mercy Can Result in Peace?

Text:

Psalm 103:1-5 (ESV)
1 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! 2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, 3 who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, 4 who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, 5 who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.

Observation:

David was a man who knew what it was to lack inner peace, and he knew that he personally deserved the consequences of his sins. He was a man in need of mercy; it was his only hope for inner peace.

Psalm 51:1 (ESV)
Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions.

Psalm 32:3-4 (NLT)
3 When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long. 4 Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me. My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat.

The goodnews is that God loves us with an everlasting love; it is a love that loves the undeserving because that is His nature; God is love.

Ephesians 2:4-7 (ESV)
4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

Don't wait for people in need to ask for mercy; take the initiative and be merciful.

Matthew 5:7 (ESV)
"Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.

Prayer:

Father God, my dear Father, I am so blessed to be the recipient of Your love, forgiveness, mercy, and grace. Father, I pray that as one who has received mercy that I will be a person who is merciful to others. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

A debtor to mercy alone,
Of covenant mercy I sing.

My Savior's obedience and blood
Hide all my transgressions from view.
