Title: What Scripture Do You Turn to When You Need Help?

Text:

Psalm 27:1 (HCSB)
1 The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom should I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life— of whom should I be afraid?

Observation:

I have found over the course of my life that when something is causing me difficulty in my life it is often more than just one thing.

Without being specific and getting too personal I want to share with you a scripture I turned to last night and found great comfort. I found so much comfort in Psalm 27 that it will be my new favorite scripture for encouragement.

There are so many things that God did for David, and that He will do for you and me if we go to Him in prayer. I'm talking about communicating with our heavenly Father with our Bible in our hands, and His Spirit in our heart. We speak to Him in prayer, and He speaks to us through His Word and His Spirit within helps us. I'm so glad for the office work of the Holy Spirit of God in the lives of God's people.

Romans 8:26-27 (HCSB)
26
In the same way the Spirit also joins to help in our weakness, because we do not know what to pray for as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with unspoken groanings.
27 And He who searches the hearts knows the Spirit's mind-set, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

David found in His life of entrusting His whole heart to God that he had nothing to fear because the God he trusted in was the God of his salvation. Not only David, but every child of God can take comfort in this knowledge.

Psalm 27:4-5 (HCSB)
4
I have asked one thing from the LORD; it is what I desire: to dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, gazing on the beauty of the LORD and seeking [Him] in His temple.
5 For He will conceal me in His shelter in the day of adversity; He will hide me under the cover of His tent; He will set me high on a rock.

John 15:5 (HCSB)
5 "I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in Me and I in him produces much fruit, because you can do nothing without Me.

I agree with David's response:

Psalm 27:8 (HCSB)
8 My heart says [this] about You, "You are to seek My face." LORD, I will seek Your face.

Prayer:

Father God, I am so grateful for the sufficient grace that You provide to meet all of our needs through Jesus Christ our Savior. Lord, I will seek Your face; I will not forfeit the grace of God through prayerlessness. And the people of God said, Amen.

What a Friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!
