The Word of God for wisdom:
Proverbs 1:20-23 (ESV)
20 Wisdom cries aloud in the street, in the markets she raises her voice; 21 at the head of the noisy streets she cries out; at the entrance of the city gates she speaks: 22 "How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple? How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing and fools hate knowledge? 23 If you turn at my reproof, behold, I will pour out my spirit to you; I will make my words known to you.
The Word of God for inspiration:
Psalm 27:4-6 (ESV)
4 One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple. 5 For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock. 6 And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me, and I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melody to the Lord.
The Word of God for encouragement:
Matthew 5:15-16 (ESV)
15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
My observation:
None of us have light within ourselves absent the divine presence of God and his Word in our life. However, when Jesus comes and takes up residence in our life we have the light that is greater than any light the world has ever seen.
John 8:12 (ESV)
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."
The Word of God is another source of divine light that the world needs desperately. We need to plant God's word in us, and then let it shine through us.
Psalm 119:105 (ESV)
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Psalm 119:130 (ESV)
The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.
The goal of letting our light shine is not so that we receive praise, but that God will receive praise.
My prayer:
Father God, my dear Father, I ask that you would stir up in me, and in all of your people a burning desire to let the light that is in us shine through us. Father, shine on me, in me, and through me for your glory and praise. Amen.
