Sunday Morning Reflections_September 25, 2011

The Word of God for wisdom:

Proverbs 25:20 (NLT)
Singing cheerful songs to a person with a heavy heart is like taking someone's coat in cold weather or pouring vinegar in a wound.

The Word of God for inspiration:

Psalm 36:7 (ESV)
How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings.

The Word of God for encouragement:

1 John 5:3-5 (ESV)
3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. 4 For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world— our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

My prayer:

Our Father in heaven, my dear Father, I thank you for the love of God, and for the commandments of God. Father, I am so thankful that you have made it possible for your children to love you, and to obey your commandments.

Father God, I pray that by faith and dependence upon your power, that I will be able to experience the reality that obedience is not difficult but a delight. Father, I desire that state of rest that comes from leaning totally upon you.

Matthew 11:28-30 (ESV)
28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

1 Peter 2:2-3 (ESV)
2 Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation— 3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good.
