Daily Prayer_November 15, 2010

The Word for wisdom:

Proverbs 15:8 (HCSB)
The sacrifice of the wicked is detestable to the Lord, but the prayer of the upright is His delight.

The Word for inspiration:

Psalm 30:1-5 (HCSB)
1 I will exalt You, Lord, because You have lifted me up and have not allowed my enemies to triumph over me. 2 Lord my God, I cried to You for help, and You healed me. 3 Lord, You brought me up from Sheol; You spared me from among those going down to the Pit. 4 Sing to Yahweh, you His faithful ones, and praise His holy name. 5 For His anger lasts only a moment, but His favor, a lifetime. Weeping may spend the night, but there is joy in the morning.

My observation:

As we approach the day that has been set aside in our nation as Thanksgiving Day, this Psalm is a reminder that every day should be a day of thanksgiving for God's people. I don't have to look back very far when I start to count my blessings.

Isn't it wonderful to be able to have access to our heavenly Father and to be able to bring to him the cares and concerns that we have in our life. In that great teaching on prayer Jesus gave his disciples a pattern for praying.

Matthew 6:11 (HCSB)
Give us today our daily bread.

If you are hungry, you should ask the Lord for food.  If you are sick you should ask the Lord for health. David's need was for health so that is what he asked the Lord for in this Psalm. You can ask your heavenly Father for whatever you need.

Psalm 30:2 (HCSB)
Lord my God, I cried to You for help, and You healed me.

There are no perfect saints. David was not perfect, but he served a perfect God, and his God had dealt mercifully with him. When you are not perfect it is good to be in the hands of God rather than in the hands of man.

1 Chronicles 21:13 (HCSB)
David answered Gad, "I'm in anguish. Please, let me fall into the Lord's hands because His mercies are very great, but don't let me fall into human hands."

Yes, David would say that it pays to serve the Lord, and to make a place in your life to talk to him every day. The Lord brought David from sickness to health, and from weeping to joy. If the Lord has done something good and gracious for you, why don't you do what David did? Give the Lord some praise.

Psalm 30:4 (MSG)
All you saints! Sing your hearts out to God! Thank him to his face!

My prayer:

Father God, my dear Father, I am so grateful to be able to have this daily face time with you. Lord, I can identify with David because you have been for me a doctor in a sick room.

Father God, I have also missed the mark, and have experienced the chastening of the Lord's hand in my life. And like your servant David, I would rather be in the hands of the Lord than in the hands of man. Father, mercy suits my case.
